THE VOICE OF KARLA ORIHUELA

Banner Voice Karla Orihuela
Big woman (in height, never in age) who loves to laugh at the top of her lungs, mom of 5 kids, 3 cats and 2 dogs (dinosaur size). Crazy about retro, and everything that evokes nostalgia. I am an entrepreneur in diapers thanks to the pandemic, which added as much as it subtracted from me.

WHAT IS MEXICO CITY FOR YOU?

It is the definition of perfect imperfection. My Defectuoso, (sorry, I still refuse to say CDMX to Mexico City haha) is full of harsh contrasts but also infinite magical surrealism. So, if I had to say in a "Visit Mexico" ad why you should go into this chaos, I would say that you would not spend 1 single day like the previous one and you could live 365 days a year eating something different without repeating dishes.

WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST WAY TO GET TO KNOW MEXICO CITY?

Through its people, no doubt, asking the locals what to do and where to go. There is no better recommendation for sightseeing and eating "fregón" than from the chilangos themselves, because we have already had to get lost in the subway, to be seen as tourists, to be charged as "güeritos" and to have our places changed from one day to the next.

TOP 5 RECOMMENDATIONS IN MEXICO CITY

  1. For cultural plan, definitely the best museum after the Anthropology and History Museum, the Anahuacalli. Go, I know what I'm talking about.
  2. For folkloric nightlife there is no doubt El Club Cabaret La Perla, a 1946 venue that is a mix between crashing an unknown's wedding in the 90's and a drag talent show.
  3. Take a dive into your childhood and the childhood of your parents and grandparents by visiting the Toy Museum (Calle Dr Olvera 15, Doctores, Cuauhtémoc, 06720 Mexico City, CDMX). If you're not from Mexico, you'll love to see what we played with here when we were your age. Don't be scared, outside you don't give 1 peso but it's a great museum.
  4. Escape by bike or subway to the historic center (Zocalo station) and run straight to 71 Av Francisco I. Madero St. for a Taco de Canasta from "Los Especiales". It is the tastiest and cheapest delicacy you will ever taste in your life, with 4 taquitos you can have it for the whole day.
  5. Nothing like being surprised by everything in one of my favorite bizarre places, Plaza Garibaldi. If I were you, I'd have a tequilita in the Tequila Museum (plan fresón) and once I felt more confident, I would go to the very center of the plaza to sing along with the mariachis. And if you are one of the adventurous ones, let yourself be electrocuted for no good reason, with the "Toques, Toques" dude. You will never experience anything like it, ever.
