Negotiating with your Roommates

Negotiating_Covive

Living with complete strangers for the first time can be a challenge, especially when most of us still work from home. From adjusting to your new private space, as well as getting to know the shared and common things inside the house or apartment, it can be a bit grim. But as with everything, there are ways to make it more enjoyable and cope with these situations in the best way possible.

At Covive, the monthly contribution includes cleaning services for shared and common areas, as well as for the rooms. This does not mean that the inhabitants are unconcerned about keeping their space clean, we understand it as a shared responsibility, where we take care of the heavy work and you enjoy the space in a conscious way. Each inhabitant is responsible, for example, for washing your dishes after every meal or keeping your workspace clean.

Under this shared responsibility is that Covive manages to maintain cordiality and empathy in all its spaces and different communities. However, if you have not yet tried Covive, we leave you a list of recommendations so that everything flows in your own community:

Talk about responsibilities

The less time it takes for you to talk to your roommates, the better you will be able to adjust to your new space. If you are new to the place, try to ask first if there are any rules or guidelines to follow, analyze and understand them... if they work for you, then take responsibility for your part. Now that you are moving in for the first time to share with your best friend or a co-worker, it is important that you define noise schedules, what cleaning needs to be done and how often, it is also important that you discuss the issue of visitors.

Don't over complicate the guidelines because they can eventually be their own enemy, keep things simple.

Divide

After having talked about all the responsibilities that have to be covered, for example, paying the utilities, buying some of the accessories for cleaning, watering the plants, taking out the garbage, among many others that exist. The next step should be to distinguish between the fixed and one-time events, and to divide the fixed ones or those that are repeated with a certain periodicity, between the two, three or the number of people sharing the space.

Calendar

Okay, by this stage you should already have everything well downloaded and divided, the only thing missing now is to create a shared calendar. This can be done in Google Calendar or another shared tool on your devices or simply have a physical calendar in the house, visible to all and that each individual meets their obligations in a timely manner to always maintain good coexistence.

We hope this series of recommendations will help you to share your apartment, house or building in a better way, but if you really want to live the best experience, we are waiting for you in our shared houses. Apply today for a room!
