Our community and social estrangement

compartir es vivir más

The community is the heart of Covive. Yes, we like design, we like houses and we like objects, but all of the above is a concrete result of the efforts and attention we put in making the community feel comfortable. We have already said that we believe that diversity is a basic aspect, because thanks to it more ideas and more experiences arise, so we work because all people can coexist in the same space.

Objects And what else?

As mentioned earlier, we set out to design objects that would help detonate coexistence, the same with the design of houses, but what else do we do? We like to organize experiences, spend time together, find new experiences, new moments, laughter, talks and anecdotes. That’s why twice a month, we organize experiences that allow us to get closer, live more and enjoy more. We have had one-day trips, inns, tasting of mezcales, among others.

Experiences and COVID

During the pandemic, keeping up has been a real challenge. We know that at present, the context inhibits us from living together in the same way we did before and this has been directly reflected in the way Covive unfolds. From ceasing the entry of new inhabitants to the houses during red traffic light, to adapting the cleaning services, to questioning how we could continue to maintain our experiences under this context of isolation.

Our reflections

Seeking the community to remain active under this landscape has been challenging. We know that for the last 5 months, the best and healthiest way to live together has been by video call, yet in that window that houses the images resulting from the cameras of the people who are gathered, is where our work is concentrated, our fun and now part of the community where I live? After thinking and testing different ways of generating coexistence, we realized that it was best that, inside the houses, they could live together and if the activity allowed, we connected to the internet so that we could enjoy with the other haitants who were not confined together.

What about the activities?

It was that way we thought that sending deconstructed food, snacks, wine and board games, a virtual cooking class, yoga classes, among others, could be activities in which they could still live remotely.

We continue to explore trying to get creative, but it’s nice to know that, even within a social landscape, it’s possible to connect with others, share and enjoy.
